The same results you achieved in the last competition!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite your efforts, you begin to lose motivation and question if all the hard work is worth it&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You get discouraged which causes you to pull back on your training&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You even contemplate quitting your sport. You think, \u201cWhy should I continue to work hard if I don\u2019t see the results?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Pay-Off_Myth\"><\/span>The Pay-Off Myth<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Work ethic is considered to be a cornerstone to any performance outcome&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But some athletes have the misconception that if they work hard today that they will perform better tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of buying into the fact that progress takes time and persistence, these athletes want immediate gratification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reality is that while hard work is the foundation for optimal performance, it rarely leads to immediate <strong>success<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think of the farmer&#8230; He doesn\u2019t throw down some seeds one day and expect to see crops the next day&#8230; He tends to the seedlings each day&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though he doesn\u2019t see the results immediately, he knows growth is occurring just below the surface&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If he gives up on feeding and watering the seedlings, the results will be devastating&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has <strong>faith<\/strong> in the process and knows results will happen if he stays the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Athletic improvement requires the same: work, persistence and belief in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Performance is the result of habits and habits develop through consistent repetition over a significant period of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_can_you_do_to_maintain_motivation_when_results_have_yet_to_be_seen\"><\/span>What can you do to maintain motivation when results have yet to be seen?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Give yourself a break &#8211; It\u2019s normal to get angry when you are not seeing results but let that emotion fuel your efforts to push forward.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be patient \u2013 Let go of that need to see immediate results. Everything worthwhile takes time. Know that your efforts will pay off at some point.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a \u201cwhy\u201d \u2013 Remind yourself why you are competing this in the first place. Understanding and using the reasons \u201cwhy\u201d you compete will help you stay motivated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enjoy the ride \u2013 Enjoy the process. There are more to goals than just the end result. It&#8217;s not about getting to the top, but rather the climb to the top.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give yourself credit \u2013 Take pride in how far you have come in your sport and not how far you need to go.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Celebrate milestones \u2013 Remind yourself that each step moves you closer to your goal no matter how small it is.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Successful athletes have learned how to build self-confidence and stop self-doubt.
