With each attempt, you risk physical pain and the emotional heartaches of missed attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Managing the rigors of figure skating requires genuine <strong>strength<\/strong>. To succeed in competition, you must commit to improving your <strong>mental toughness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford, the Canadian figure skating pair, embody the characteristics of mental toughness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The four-time Canadian National Champions never finished higher than third at the World Championships but Duhamel and Radford kept <strong>focused<\/strong> on improving their performance on the ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entering the 2015 World Championships, Duhamel and Radford were armed with the tough-mindedness of champions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duhamel and Radford\u2019s strong mental game paid off as they performed a strong routine and won the gold medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThat\u2019s what makes champions, that mental strength,\u201d<\/em> said Radford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_was_the_formula_for_Duhamel_and_Radfords_mental_toughness\"><\/span>What was the formula for Duhamel and Radford\u2019s mental toughness?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Putting in the time &#8211; Duhamel and Radford realized there is no such thing as an \u201covernight success\u201d and no shortcuts. <strong>Success<\/strong> takes hard work, <strong>focus<\/strong> and <strong>determination<\/strong> on a consistent basis. The goal is to have no regrets after a performance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being savvy &#8211; Savvy is that \u201cknow-how\u201d and <strong>confidence<\/strong> gained from tough experiences. Not every athlete learns from adversity. Some athletes see tough experiences as a curse while other athletes grow from hard times.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focusing<\/strong> &#8211;&nbsp; Duhamel and Radford approached World Championships as just another skating routine with no greater significance than any other event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tips for Greater Mental Toughness:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tip #1: Leave it all on the ice \u2013 Work with 100% focus and effort each session and take the risks necessary to feel that sense of pride after each performance. Prior to a training session, ask yourself what your objectives are for the day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tip #2: Learn from falls \u2013 Learn from mistakes.
