According to one reader, David, he thinks that, on his worst putting days, it leaks into the rest of his game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>He went on to say there are three reasons for this:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Missing short putts puts a premium on getting close.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>General frustration blurs a golfer\u2019s focus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The round is shot, so you lose interest in the score, and focus is lost.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>I think everyone understands the first reason missing can spill over\u2026 You start trying too hard to hit it close or chip it close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Numbers 2 and 3 above are related and not given enough attention. These relate to the <strong>emotional reaction to missing putts\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I agree with David that when you become frustrated with missing or the round being shot to heck, this can spill over and affect your entire game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Frustration_can_cause_players_to\"><\/span>Frustration can cause players to:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Speed up the pace of their routine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make bad or hasty decisions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try to force shots (or makeup for that bogey)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lose interest in the round<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>None of the above will help you play good golf. But how do you deal with the frustration so it does not spill over and affect your entire game?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, make sure you <strong>slow down and take your time<\/strong> during decision-making in your routine. Too many golfers will get up over the ball and slap at it when frustrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Second, be prepared to talk yourself down.
