that challenges your ability and forces you to work hard and dig a little deeper to get more out of your <strong>potential.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might have very high talent, but your performance will <strong>consistently<\/strong> be under par without some <strong>pressure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, many first-round NFL draft picks who entered the league full of promise only fizzled out early in their careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, to reach <strong>peak performance,<\/strong> this demands a special approach to <strong>pressure&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you seek to avoid <strong>pressure<\/strong> due to fear of failure, your athletic <strong>potential<\/strong> may be in jeopardy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson entered the NFL via two entirely different paths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winston was a Heisman trophy winner and first overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wilson was a talented baseball prospect who was selected in the third round by the Seattle Seahawks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite where they fell in the draft, both Winston and Wilson were Rookies of the Year and Pro Bowl selections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_have_Winston_and_Wilson_succeeded_at_one_of_the_most_difficult_positions_in_all_of_sports\"><\/span>How have Winston and Wilson succeeded at one of the most difficult positions in all of sports?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The common thread that runs through Winston and Wilson is their <strong>LOVE<\/strong> for <strong>pressure.<\/strong> (It may sound odd only because <strong>pressure<\/strong> gets a bad reputation in sports.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winston and Wilson knew that <strong>pressure<\/strong> was the vehicle that could take their level of play higher so they set out to learn how to harness and benefit from <strong>pressure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both of these elite quarterbacks sought the advice of Trevor Moawad, a <strong>mental-conditioning<\/strong> consultant, to embrace the power of <strong>pressure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MOAWAD<em>:<\/em><\/strong><em> \u201cVery few people can look at stress <strong>positively.<\/strong> Both Jameis and Russell love stress and they recognize that some of the best things you\u2019ll get in life come from fighting through those challenges that nobody\u2019s going to give you anything that\u2019s not hard. And that\u2019s where I think Jameis really views that as a challenge and Russell views it as a challenge. Jameis looks at <strong>pressure<\/strong> as a privilege, Russell views <strong>pressure<\/strong> as a privilege.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A quarterback is under <strong>pressure<\/strong> every snap. He has to read the defense, make last second play changes, avoid sacks, go through receiver progressions, two minute drills, clock management, overcome mistakes, improvise when plays break down and make those critical decisions that can decide the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both Winston and Wilson possess an uncanny ability to use <strong>pressure<\/strong> to their advantage and that is the reason each has <strong>succeeded<\/strong> early in their professional career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_can_you_use_pressure_to_your_advantage\"><\/span>How can you use pressure to your advantage?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First, stop viewing <strong>pressure<\/strong> as something to be avoided. Look at <strong>pressure<\/strong> as the needed element that challenges you to reach your potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Embrace <strong>pressure<\/strong> situations. Get excited when the game is on the line. That\u2019s your time to shine. Just because you embrace <strong>pressure<\/strong> does not guarantee victory but it places you in the <strong>optimal mindset<\/strong> to <strong>succeed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Practice with <strong>pressure.<\/strong> Play the pressure game in your mind during training sessions.
