Are you <strong>confident<\/strong> that you can perform at a high level in a new role?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Performing <strong>consistently<\/strong> is all about <strong>confidence,<\/strong> but <strong>confidence<\/strong> is not an all-or-nothing proposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"One_of_the_biggest_misconceptions_by_athletes_is_that_some_believe_you_either_have_confidence_or_you_dont\"><\/span>One of the biggest misconceptions by athletes is that some believe you either have confidence or you don\u2019t.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In sports, athletes often say, \u201c<em>I\u2019ve lost my <strong>confidence.<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u201d<\/strong> But there are many levels of <strong>confidence.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, you do want to have stable <strong>confidence.<\/strong> And you&#8217;ll find many ways to steadily build <strong>confidence<\/strong> even if you are not the star of your team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Let\u2019s look at a prime sports example:<\/strong> the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Eagles traded for and signed Sam Bradford to a $35 million two year contract in 2015. Bradford was the incumbent starter for the 2016 year under a new coaching regimen. The Eagles also signed free agent quarterback Chase Daniel to a 3-year $21 million contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then the Eagles traded up in the 2016 NFL draft to select top quarterback prospect Carson Wentz. Wentz was expected to learn from the two veteran quarterbacks over the next couple of years so he could eventually take over the reins in a few years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, during his first pre-season game, Wentz suffered a hairline fracture in his ribs and never saw game action for the duration of the preseason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Bradford was traded a few days before the regular season, Wentz was thrust in the starter\u2019s role for opening day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wentz felt ready stating he kept sharp, ready and <strong>confident<\/strong> by <strong>consistently<\/strong> paying attention to his <strong>mental preparation<\/strong> and doing his &#8220;<strong><em>mental reps.<\/em><\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WENTZ:<\/strong> \u201c<em>The whole time, I was just getting ready for whenever this time would come. I knew I was ready. I knew I was taking the <strong>mental reps,<\/strong> being out the last couple of weeks, even going out to the first preseason game. I was developing at a fast pace and now it\u2019s here. I\u2019m <strong>confident<\/strong> in myself, I\u2019m <strong>confident<\/strong> in this team. I\u2019m excited for it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wentz has been playing his sport for years and knows football is football, even if he is playing at the NFL level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WENTZ:<\/strong> <em>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing different I need to do now. It\u2019s still football.
