short of your goals and your potential in sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why do so many athletes get trapped in negative self-labels?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the root cause of your negative thoughts?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Negative thinking is based on <strong>fear&#8230;<\/strong> Fear of failing, fear of mistakes, fear of criticism, fearing of losing playing time, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Negative_beliefs_bring_about_negative_outcomes\"><\/span>Negative beliefs bring about negative outcomes.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You make your reality by the thoughts you choose to entertain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, a few random negative thoughts won\u2019t guarantee a poor performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poor performance occurs when you feed those negative thoughts by constantly <strong>focusing<\/strong> on them, especially when not performing your best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more you <strong>focus<\/strong> on negative thoughts, the more they run rampant in your mind which leads to mistakes, errors, drops, falls and losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may think there is nothing you can do about your negative beliefs,<em> \u201cIt\u2019s just the way I am.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, there is nothing further from the Self-Critical Behavior<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can change your beliefs to <strong>focus<\/strong> on healthy ones. The more you <strong>focus<\/strong> on feeling <strong>confident,<\/strong> the more you will push out the demons in your head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scottish soccer player Ryan Fraser has batted with <strong>thinking negative<\/strong> during games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a game tied 0-0 with 5 minutes remaining, Fraser had a one-on-one against a defender but rather than take on the defender, he passed the ball back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fraser was later asked by the team\u2019s sport psychologist why he\u2019d been so timid, he said, <em>&#8220;I didn\u2019t want to lose the ball and they run in and score.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>sport psychologist<\/strong> responded with, <em>\u201cBut what if you took him on and crossed the ball and we scored from it?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fraser admitted,<em> &#8220;I hadn\u2019t really thought of that. I had gone to the <strong>negative output,<\/strong> the safer output. That was the type of stuff holding me back.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"You_can_see_from_this_example_that_Fraser_had_two_choices_in_how_to_think_about_the_situation\"><\/span>You can see from this example that Fraser had two choices in how to think about the situation:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attack the goal and possibly score (success-oriented)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or\u201cWhat if I mess up?\u201d (avoid failure)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Avoiding failure causes you to play it safe. You&#8217;ll play to not make mistakes or mess up your team&#8217;s chances of winning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And since the avoiding failure holds you back from taking chances, you will never become all you can be in sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Focusing<\/strong> on <strong>success<\/strong> and what you have allows you to play <strong>aggressively,<\/strong> gives you the opportunity for a <strong>positive outcome<\/strong> and allows you to strive for your potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you opt to see the positive and grab hold of <strong>confident<\/strong> thoughts, you will greatly increase your chances to <strong>succeed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, it is essential that you commit to reprogram your thinking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Effective_Strategies_for_Turning_Around_Negative_Thinking\"><\/span>2 Effective Strategies for Turning Around Negative Thinking:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Focus<\/strong> on what you want to do instead of what you fear might happen.
