wins may be <strong>intimidating<\/strong> for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"This_form_of_intimidation_is_self-generated\"><\/span>This form of intimidation is self-generated.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>That is to say that another golfer is not getting in your face trying to elicit a negative reaction from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Self-intimidation<\/strong> can drastically interfere with your ability to shoot a low score. Self-intimation can create so much <strong>anxiety<\/strong> that your body loses the ability to swing the club freely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Self-intimidation_divides_your_focus\"><\/span>Self-intimidation divides your focus.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>So instead of dedicating 100 percent of your <strong>focus<\/strong> to your game, you constantly have one eye on your opponents and their scores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, only 30 golfers qualify for the Tour Championship including No. 11 seed Pat Perez. Perez had played great his rookie year when he arrived on the Tour and finished 40th on the money list in 2002.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though Perez has maintained his full PGA Tour card throughout his 16 year career, he has never reached the Tour Championship until this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perez has a mathematical shot at the FedEx Cup title, but many have dismissed his chances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perez doesn\u2019t give himself a great chance to win either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PEREZ:<\/strong><em> &#8220;All the top guys would have to play bad, which they haven&#8217;t done all year. So for them to all do it at once, and me win, it&#8217;s about the same odds as the Powerball.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what is an effective approach to overcome self-intimidation when playing golfers with more success in the sport?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"There_are_4_strategies_you_can_utilize_to_overcome_self-intimidation\"><\/span>There are 4 strategies you can utilize to overcome self-intimidation:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Have manageable goals<\/strong> \u2013 When your expectations become too high, you will be excessively anxious. Instead, set <strong>manageable goals<\/strong> to help you focus on execution instead of outcomes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Realize the past does not dictate the present<\/strong> \u2013 Just because your opponents have won tournaments does not mean they will be exempt from mistakes, bad shots and poor rounds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focus on playing well instead of winning<\/strong> \u2013 Since you cannot predict the future nor can you control the results of the tournament, focus on playing your best golf in the <strong>NOW.<\/strong> When you focus on your game in the present, you are better able to swing the club freely, let go of bad shots and play consistent golf.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focus on your successes not your opponent\u2019s resume<\/strong> \u2013 You have your own success resume.
