Not necessarily <strong>consistency<\/strong> in play, but <strong>consistency<\/strong> in everyday life&#8230; Especially before and during a match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kerri Walsch Jennings, a three-time Olympic Gold Medalist and one-time Bronze Medalist in Beach Volleyball, has routine in her day, as well as before a match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walsch Jennings maintains a particular diet throughout each day in order to fuel her body appropriately and support her <strong>routine.<\/strong> She also has a very specific mantra in which she repeats before each game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Her_mantra_comprises_%E2%80%9CBreathe_Believe_Battle%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Her mantra comprises, <em>&#8220;Breathe, Believe, Battle.&#8221;<\/em><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>She says these strong, <strong>motivational<\/strong> words to herself in order to prepare herself <strong>mentally.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, she has a certain playlist she listens to called, &#8220;The Hunt.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She believes that when she is out there competing, she\u2019s the hunter, so she gets into that <strong>mindset.<\/strong> The playlist includes a mixture of songs and artists from 80\u2019s pop to Nicki Minaj.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Repeating her mantra and listening to &#8220;The Hunt&#8221; <strong>mentally prepares<\/strong> Walsch Jennings for competition. It\u2019s something that she does before each game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She\u2019s <strong>consistent<\/strong> in her <strong>preparation<\/strong> and her career has been filled with <strong>success.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to <strong>prepare mentally<\/strong> for a match, you want to establish a <strong>pre-match routine,<\/strong> something that you do before each game. It can be a playlist, a <strong>positive<\/strong> phrase about yourself or game, a prayer; almost anything, as long as it resonates with <strong>YOU.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My personal <strong>pre-match routine<\/strong> included dressing the same way (knee pads, three socks, and shoes on my right leg, then on my left), listening to &#8220;Put On&#8221; by Young Jeezy, and saying a prayer during the National Anthem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Doing those three things before a game hyped me up and allowed me to <strong>focus<\/strong> in on the task at hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, there are certain tasks within a volleyball match that you want to trail a routine&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, serving and serve receive. Have a regular, brief routine when you step behind the service line to serve. Also, develop a routine if you pass in serve receive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having a <strong>consistent pre-match routine<\/strong> helps you to <strong>prepare mentally<\/strong> for a match.
