So, if you are going through some challenging circumstances, you&#8217;re not alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Athletes face <strong>adversity<\/strong> all the time, just listen to the post-game interviews of teams and athletes who won a competition or championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Every athlete will talk about two things: adversity and resiliency.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"For_example_you_will_hear_comments_such_as\"><\/span>For example, you will hear comments such as:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>&#8220;All season long, we had to battle injuries but we kept fighting.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;I had some bad breaks early in the tournament but I kept <strong>calm<\/strong> and grinded out the victory.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;I was sick all week but I stayed <strong>positive.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;The other team jumped out to an early lead but we stayed <strong>focused<\/strong> on our game and climbed back into the game.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to <strong>adversity,<\/strong> you can\u2019t control what happens to you but you can control how you respond to <strong>adversity.<\/strong> You want to learn how to <strong>cope with adversity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dealing_with_adversity_can_help_you_overcome_obstacles_and_build_mental_toughness_or_resiliency\"><\/span>Dealing with adversity can help you overcome obstacles and build mental toughness or resiliency.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Let\u2019s see how resiliency works at the elite level&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Charlottetown Islanders are a junior ice hockey team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and were down 2-0 in their playoff series against Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than becoming <strong>frustrated<\/strong> over the losses, the Isles stayed <strong>focused<\/strong> on the task at hand. The team built on the <strong>positives<\/strong> from the first two games and stayed <strong>confident<\/strong> in their ability to win the next two games on their home ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isles center, Keith Getson, talked about the <strong>resilient mentality<\/strong> of the team and its <strong>focus<\/strong> on the next game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GETSON<\/strong>: <em>&#8220;We\u2019re [mad] we\u2019re down 2-0, honestly right now. If people think we\u2019re out of this, that\u2019s good, it fuels our fire. Coming back home, we\u2019re happy now in our building. We did honestly play two really good road games. Hopefully we\u2019ll get some puck luck and take home the wins.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>mental toughness<\/strong> and <strong>resiliency<\/strong> of the Isles fueled their play as the team won Game 3 in overtime 3-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then Game 4, the Isles showed their <strong>mental toughness<\/strong> again winning the game in overtime, 4-3, despite being down 3-1 in the third period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the Isles&#8217; <strong>mental toughness<\/strong> that helped them tie the playoff series according to center Keith Getson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GETSON<\/strong>: <em>&#8220;We&#8217;ve been a resilient group all year and at any point in the game I don&#8217;t think anybody thought we were out of it&#8230; We&#8217;ve come back from a lot of deficits this year.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Resiliency_keeps_you_in_contention_Resiliency_keeps_you_competing\"><\/span>Resiliency keeps you in contention.
