<strong>unlucky<\/strong> bounces, <strong>unfair<\/strong> officiating, bad seeding, unlucky draws, <strong>inopportune<\/strong> equipment failure, <strong>horrible<\/strong> competition conditions, injuries, and opponents who are firing on all cylinders just at the right time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You probably question, <em>&#8220;Why do these unlucky things always happen to me?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_do_these_things_happen_to_you\"><\/span>Why do these things happen to you?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Why does bad luck seem to follow you constantly?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you think you&#8217;re unlucky, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every bad break will become evidence to support your belief that you are unlucky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reality is all athletes get bad breaks&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s just that some athletes perpetuate the bad luck cycle by calling themselves <strong>unlucky<\/strong> while other athletes rely on effort to move past those bad breaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_can_you_turn_your_supposed_luck_around\"><\/span>How can you turn your supposed luck around?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Take <strong>responsibility<\/strong> for your performance!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t blame your performance on bad luck. Look to those performances for insight to improve future performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking <strong>responsibility<\/strong> requires that you <strong>focus<\/strong> on your strengths rather than misfortune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Focusing<\/strong> on <strong>misfortune<\/strong> hurts your effort and leads to <strong>under-performance.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Focusing<\/strong> on your <strong>strengths<\/strong> will keep you <strong>motivated<\/strong> to try to turn the tide, to make your own breaks rather than passively waiting for some opportunity to come your way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Focusing<\/strong> on your <strong>strengths<\/strong> will help you see what you can do, right now, to turn things around instead of getting stuck on what has already happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking responsibility also requires that you prepare for all contingencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Preparation_is_a_Proactive_Step\"><\/span>Preparation is a Proactive Step<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you take <strong>responsibility<\/strong> for your level of performance, then you have the power to improve future performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking responsibility puts the ball in your court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking responsibility is what the Ottawa Senators know they need in order to break out of their mini slump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Senators had a stretch of six losses in seven games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One particular loss really hit hard when they allowed the Tampa Bay Lightning to tie the game with 27 seconds left in regulation and then lost the game 14 seconds into overtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ottawa defenseman Mark Borowiecki talked about the team\u2019s need to take responsibility for their level of play in order to be better prepared for future games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BOROWIECKI:<\/strong> <em>&#8220;As a group, collectively, we&#8217;ve got to take some ownership for our play and our results. It&#8217;s been a few too many years here for us where the players haven&#8217;t taken ownership.
