<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Why work on the <strong>mental<\/strong> <strong>aspects<\/strong> of sports? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Doubts about the value of <strong>mental<\/strong> <strong>training<\/strong> hold back many athletes from delving into exploring the <strong>mental<\/strong> <strong>aspects<\/strong> of training and its effect on competitive performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The following thoughts are common among athletes that have ignored mental training:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>&#8220;I have no time for any additional training.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;I don\u2019t know what mental training is.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;I don\u2019t know how to go about it.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;I\u2019m not sure if it will benefit me.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;My teammates will think I\u2019m crazy.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;I\u2019m a hard worker in practice and push my limits in practice.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;I\u2019m already the best on my team.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Not adding a sound <strong>mental<\/strong> <strong>training<\/strong> <strong>program<\/strong> will hold you back from your potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think about this for a minute&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Would you be 100% okay knowing that you didn\u2019t achieve all you could have after you moved on from competitive sports? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s be super-conservative for a moment&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What if <strong>mental<\/strong> <strong>training<\/strong> could improve your performance 10 percent&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Would you really be willing to ignore an aspect of training  that could help you perform significantly better?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Let\u2019s return to those previous thoughts that may be holding  you back from adding mental training to your regimen and reframe each one:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;I have no time for any additional training.&#8221; &#8211; <\/em>Do you  have 15-30 minutes in the morning, before practice or before bedtime?  Just a short amount of mental training could contribute significant  gains to your performance in competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;I don\u2019t know what it is.&#8221;<\/em> &#8211; Mental training is about  thinking better, playing smarter, and controlling your mind to handle  the rigors of sport in order to perform at your peak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;I don\u2019t know how to go about it.&#8221;<\/em> &#8211; Just as you found a  coach, searched for a team or looked for a private instructor, you can  do the same to find a mental game coach to help you learn and develop  your mental game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;I\u2019m not sure if it will benefit me.&#8221;<\/em> &#8211; The research is there&#8230; Many professional and Olympic athletes credit mental training for their success in their sport. &nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;My teammates will think I\u2019m crazy.&#8221;<\/em> &#8211; Who cares? Mental  training is training. By introducing mental training to your overall  training regimen, you will gain a significant edge over your  competitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;I\u2019m a hard worker in practice and push my limits in practice.&#8221; &#8211; <\/em>That\u2019s  great but mental training will help you focus better in practice, work  more efficiently and get to the next level in your sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;I\u2019m already the best on my team.&#8221;<\/em> &#8211; What if you could be even better or perform more consistently? Mental training can help you go from good to great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Houston Astros\u2019 pitcher Josh James has seen vast improvement to his play on the field due to his mental training regimen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p> <strong>JAMES<\/strong>:<em> &#8220;I\u2019d give [mental training] more credit  than anything.
