which infers that you&#8217;re living in your own little world impervious to what is going on around you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may even have heard a similar expression, <em>&#8220;Are you living under a rock?&#8221;<\/em> to describe you&#8217;re unaware of what is happening in the outside world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These two phrases are <strong>negative<\/strong> commentaries about a person solely wrapped up in their own personal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"In_sports_being_in_a_bubble_is_not_a_bad_thing\"><\/span>In sports, being in a bubble is not a bad thing.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The phrase, &#8220;performing in a bubble&#8221; refers to an athlete\u2019s ability to block out <strong>distractions<\/strong> and <strong>focus<\/strong> on their game&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be <strong>focused<\/strong> on their job&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be immersed in the moment&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ignore the outside chatter that messes with your <strong>mental game<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting into that mental state where you are totally <strong>focused<\/strong> is challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A simple fact:<\/strong> It&#8217;s hard to ignore other people\u2019s opinions, social media comments, teammate\u2019s opinions, spectator\u2019s jeers and coach\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, some of that outside chatter seeps into your mind, contaminating your thoughts, undermining your flow, and creating a huge <strong>mental performance<\/strong> hurdle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As challenging as outside chatter may be, you can learn how to <strong>focus<\/strong> through these distractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lets_look_at_a_recent_example_in_sports%E2%80%A6\"><\/span>Let\u2019s look at a recent example in sports&#8230;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky admitted that, early in his career, <strong>negative chatter<\/strong> prevented him from playing at his peak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being drafted by the Bears with the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Trubisky had difficulty blocking out the negative chatter from outside sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Listening to the negative outside chatter caused Trubisky to doubt his abilities even though he was a top talent in the draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trubisky knew if he was to reach his potential as an athlete, he would need to learn how to prevent outside chatter from affecting his game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>TRUBISKY<\/strong>: <em>&#8220;I know what that [negative chatter] did to me when I let those voices get inside. It was not good for my mental health. People are one keystroke away from accessing you. Why would I allow people who know nothing about me to have an opinion? Why would I allow them to have that space in my mind?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Trubisky decided to not let other people\u2019s opinions to reside in his mental space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trubisky realized that his athletic <strong>success<\/strong> is dependent upon controlling his <strong>mental chatter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To deal with the problem of outside distractions, Trubisky created his own bubble, which he named &#8220;Zero Dark 10&#8221; (Ten refers to his uniform number).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the space, Trubisky only allows <strong>positivity<\/strong> and laser <strong>focus<\/strong> when he takes the field to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>TRUBISKY<\/strong>: <em>&#8220;It&#8217;s important to always be in control of your time and your thoughts. You can&#8217;t let people on the outside take control. When you take away other people&#8217;s power over you, you&#8217;re in control of everything: your time, and how you&#8217;re working, and your peace of mind.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>As an athlete, you don&#8217;t want to invite <strong>distraction<\/strong> and negativity into your <strong>mindset<\/strong>. You want to take control of what you <strong>focus<\/strong> on and stay <strong>focused<\/strong> in your performance bubble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Overcome_Outside_Distractions\"><\/span>How to Overcome Outside Distractions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Like Trubisky\u2019s, &#8220;Zero Dark 10,&#8221; create your own performance bubble.
