In this week’s sports psychology podcast, mental game of sports expert, Dr. Patrick Cohn interviews Dr. Robert Nideffer about his approach to mental training. In this excerpt, Dr. Nideffer talks about what has influenced his career and his theory of attentional focus and the multidimensional aspects of that theory.

Dr. Robert Nideffer is the founder of Enhanced Performance Systems. He’s written several sports psychology books, and authored over 100 research articles. His first book, The Inner Athlete, was published in ’76. He also wrote Psych to Win. He also wrote The Ethics and Practice of Applied Sports Psychology. He has worked with Olympic teams in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and participated as a sports psychologist in the ’84 and ’88 Olympic Games. He’s the founder of The Attentional and Interpersonal Style Assessment — that’s the TAIS, an assessment tool used worldwide by performers, in sports, business, sales, and the military.
