Can You Make a Living as a Mental Game Coach?

Becoming a Successful Mental Game Coach

I’m often asked by persons who want to get into mental coaching full time this question: “Can I make a living as a mental game coach?”

My short answer is “yes.” A handful of people–who don’t teach sports psychology at a university–do make a living as a mental game coach.

My long answer…. You can’t start a successful mental coaching practice overnight. When I began in the early 90’s, I had a few thin years. It took me at least five years to gain credibility and begin to get a foothold as a mental coach.

So you can become a successful mental game coach and earn a living doing it. And you can do it in a number of ways such as working with teams, working with individual athletes, or publishing a successful book or two, for example.

However, I’ll tell you what I reveal to my mastermind group of mental coaches: Your first priority is to do good work with athletes and help them succeed. If you help an athlete or team succeed, you can gain credibility and they spread the word to others about your work.

This is the reason I started the MGCP certification course–to help you be successful with teaching the mental game to athletes and how to be more effective.

We only have two spots left in the summer course. And late registration for the summer course ends Friday, July 16th. This is the last day I can accept new students in the summer program.

If you have not done so, please complete an application at the MGCP website:

What are our students saying?

“WOW!!! What a week I had. I was able to perform with a confidence that allowed my style to shine through–no more entering the arena with that “deer in the headlights” look or feeling. I stopped evaluating myself while I was performing, and I actually left the arena after my patterns feeling like I had experienced a lot of fun. Thank you so much.”
