Sports Psychology: Another Mental Game Coach Success Story

Mental Game Success Story

I’m honored when experienced mental game experts – people who have been mental coaching for eight or more years – contact me to help them improve their ability to help students.

Dr. Kevin Roby, of Golf Psychology Consultants, worked with a few golfers a year for about eight years prior to enrolling in my MGCP program.

Why would Dr. Roby need my help if he was already working with athletes on the mental game for eight year? Kevin felt he was doing a good job of working with his students, but wanted to provide a wider range of mental strategies.

As he stated, he wanted a formal assessment and broader range of mental strategies to help his golf students.

Two big needs prompted Kevin to invest in the MGCP course. He wanted additional credibility through a training program and the ability to assess his students more completely.

His real bonus in the course: The GMAP assessment. The GMAP helped him identify more areas that his athletes need to improve – areas that he did not pay attention to previously.

Besides being turned onto the idea of phone coaching with athletes, he learned how to coach athletes who are perfectionists and how to boost athletes’ confidence without higher expectations.

Kevin is now more comfortable with doing phone coaching, using the assessments, and providing a more comprehensive program for his students.

p.s. I was honored to have Kevin in my MGCP program:

“The MGCP course really helped identify many more areas to address with my clients and I think I am providing better services for them at this time. I got so much material. The Golfer’s Mental Aptitude Profile has just been great. They have really helped me to identify what other things we are going to work on. The additional topic areas, such as perfectionism and confidence, have really helped.”
